Each cannabis plant has its own unique characteristics and will always fall under one of three categories:
The most common method of inhalation utilizing a pipe, water pipe or rolling paper. The effects are felt instantly but controlling dosing can be difficult. Smoking is not typically recommended for patients with respiratory disease.
Vaping gently heats up cannabis to a temperature of approximately 315-385 F, at which point the THC turns into smoke-free vapors that can be inhaled without tar, ash and other harmful byproducts. Vaping is considered to be healthier than smoking and is becoming more common, but is also typically not recommended for patients with lung related illness/issues.
Cannabis can be baked or cooked into a variety of foods, typically brownies, cookies, candies, chocolates and drinks. Exact dosing can be difficult so we recommend starting with a LOW dose and going SLOW.
Capsules allow for accurate dosing which is highly beneficial for patients who are carefully monitoring their intake. The onset of relief takes longer than smoking or vaping but typically lasts longer. Capsules are typically gluten and sugar free.
Tinctures are concentrated forms of medication, usually made from oil that is alcohol or vegetable glycerin-based. Dosing is via a dropper or sprayer to help control measure intake. It is normally used under the tongue so the medication is absorbed through the capillaries.
The main difference between Rick Simpson Oil (RSO) and CBD Oil is that RSO, is high in THC, thus has a psychoactive effect while CBD Oil does not. This means that RSO results in a medicated “high”, making CBD Oil more attractive for treating children and for patients who prefer non-psychoactive medicine. Both oils have been shown to be effective for many of the same conditions.
Cannabis tea is made by pouring boiling water over leaves, stems and flower. Cannabinoids are fat soluble so adding milk to the tea is preferred to ensure high absorption. Other spices can be added to adjust flavor as needed. Organic Cannabis Oil or Rick Simpson Oil can also be added to your favorite tea as opposed to creating the tea from the cannabis plant.
Raw leaves and flowers are juiced typically with other fruits/vegetables. This method allos for an excellent immune booster and anti-inflammatory with no psychoactive effects.
Creams, ointments, and balms may be used for localized pain relief and treatment of skin conditions such as dermatitis, eczema and psoriasis. Topical patches are beneficial for sustained long-term pain relief and a variety of other conditions.
There are over 85 different cannabinoids in the cannabis plant. The two most commonly discussed are THC and CBD. Cannabinoids that come from cannabis are known as phytocannabinoids. The human body produces its own natural cannabinoids, called endocannabinoids.
Effective for relieving pain, nausea and inflammation, improving appetite, treating depression and suppressing muscle spasms.
Has been shown to inhibit cell growth in cancerous tumors. Also serves as an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-epileptic, relieves stress and anxiety, modulates function in the immune system and protects nervous system degeneration.
THC and CBD work better together as a whole plant rather than isolated components.
Concentrates are a potent extract of the cannabis plant. They can be inhaled (with the right equipment), taken orally and, in the case of oils, topically as well.
